Yesterdays GardenWe invite you to slow down, step back, and enjoy ‘Yesterdays Garden’. We have used the ‘old bones’ of this property to develop our new plantings of hard-to-find, unusual plants amidst many old time favorites. Are you looking for ‘something different’ for your gardens or do you need some help with suggestions for the ‘special spot’? Full sun, deep shade, wet soil or dry…dwarf, medium-size or giant plants, we are happy to help you with some unique ideas.

Our passion has been to search for & find rare & magnificent trees, dwarf conifer, shrubs, ornamental grasses and perennials. Trees like the exceptional variegated turkey oak Quercus cerris argentea-marmorata, the incredibly rare Carpinus betulus follis Argenteovariegatis Pendula & dove trees, Davidia Lady Dahlia & the amazing variegated Davidia Lady Sunshine.

Dry stream and unique conifers.
Drought resistant plants.

We continue to discover the diversity of conifers and can envision more changes in our gardens as we work with these great specimens. Our love of dwarf conifers continues to grow with plants like the gold spruce with bluish interior foliage, Picea sitchensis Bentham’s Sunlight with its incredibly rich history as a sacred Native American tree on the Queen Charlotte Islands, and the extremely rare species, the first in Canada, slow-growing Picea pseudowilsonii with gray-brown flaking bark. It is likely to be the 1st and only time offered in Canada.

A 4-season garden with year round appeal has become our goal. Structure, shape, foliage, texture and bloom time are all considered as we continue to grow in our knowledge of horticulture.

Some of our favorite cultivars that will delight your gardener’s heart include the amazing Disanthus Ena Nishiki with the fall display of two-toned pink on the edges darkening to red in the centre, Fothergilla Blue Shadow that will light up your shade garden, as well as, the highly sought after blue leaves of Berberis temolaica, the narrow 1-2’ wide Chamaecyparis nootkatensis  Sparkling Arrows & Stewartia pseudocamellia Pewter with it’s foliage silvery bright sheen, new red stems, highlighted with camellia-like white blooms, fiery orange-red fall colour and exceptional winter bark.

Autumn brings the final show of colour with viburnums, oakleaf hydrangeas, metasequoias, stewartias, dogwoods and ornamental grasses that are at their best gracing the landscape with rich golds & deep maroons. We plant masses of bulbs each fall, looking ahead to the spring fling of colour.

We offer many of these hard to find plants for sale in Yesterdays Garden Centre and our Garden Shop has an ever-changing array of garden decor for you to purchase for your gardens. And a nice selection of live edge furniture custom-designed & made on site by my husband with reclaimed wood. All in all, what can we say…we love trees!

We will aim to offer our gardens for your touring pleasure (after Covid-19 has passed) and the opportunity for you to purchase a new and unusual plant specimens to take home to your garden, or a piece of live-edge furniture.
